HIT ON HEAD | SHARING TRAVEL PLANS | ROAD TRIP ACROSS AMERICA EAST TO WEST
After spending a month with the old man, we continue back on our leg west. I have a little heart to heart chat with the commenters, share my travel plans, and get bonked on the head with a nice heavy water filter.

PLAYLISTS
Did you know I have a playlist of tech videos from my van build?

I also have a playlist of just travel videos if you don’t like all the tech stuff:

============================

I left the rat race to live full time on the road and so can you! The key to freedom is to lower your expenses. In my former life, I managed a company that struggled to stay out of the red. This is where I learned to hone my frugality skills and use them to my own advantage by becoming a minimalist at home. The biggest expense we all have living in a sticks and bricks is our rent or mortgage. We work most of our adult lives to make a bank or landlord / landlady rich! With ever increasing real estate prices and stagnant wages the cost of living has skyrocketed. Many can barely make ends meet and live paycheck to paycheck. You can stop the madness by thinking outside the box and joining this growing movement of full-timers that enjoy van-dwelling or RV living. If you dream about a life of travel you can do it incredibly cheap just by downsizing your lifestyle into a RV or van “tiny house” and becoming mobile.

In this series, I go from a home in the Los Angeles hills packed full of stuff and owning two cars to full-timing in a Roadtrek campervan in less than 6 months. I buy an old camper van on Craigslist and deck it out just like home with all kinds of technology to make life comfortable on the road. I hope to encourage those that think they “can’t do it” by showing how it CAN be done by planning carefully and taking baby steps.

  1. hey man,..my whole family is passed except my older sister,..family is always first, but duh i,m sure you,re hip …i wish i woulda spent more time with mine,..ya penn is 30 yrs behind its time,..and also i used marvel in my harley,..ran like a champ,.keep the rubber down and inbetween the ditches

  2. hello Tom and Odin, started to watching your videos during the RTR until now, lucky to find your videos, i will keep watching and learn….

  3. Don't sell yourself short, some of those who just use cell phones, minimal editing, lots of talking IMHO their subs are from the drama that they seem to have, you don't need the drama, really dude, you have clean content, keep it up! WTG, bike trail videos are good too! 👍👍👍🐾🐾🐾(for Odin!)

  4. I think you should just do what you do. I enjoy the vlogging. Complainers will be complainers. By the way LOVE the Spock shirt, that's awesome. And I lived in CDA as a kid, a great place. I'm hoping to get up there in my RV this summer.

  5. You're right, you can't please everyone. I love your videos, have to admit I didn't watch all of the bike videos being a woman it just isn't my thing. I did watch one and thought it was very informative and I am sure it was very helpful to plenty of people. I enjoy your humor and the fact that you are humble. I appreciate all of your effort and look forward to seeing the rest of your trip, keep up the good work……now I think I'll go check out some of those Billy videos.

  6. Saw Rushmore when I was a teenager–pretty epic. Keep up the vlog, looking forward to the northern trek.

  7. I hope you have reservations if you plan to stay in Yellowstone. On the west side of Yellowstone, Henry's lake has a free campground on the north side of the lake. On the south side there is a state campground that has nice showers but not free. We stayed there last year and it was an easy drive into Yellowstone. If you plan to stay in Jackson, you must consider going to a Bar J wrangler dinner show. Buy tickets in advance. It is so worth going to. Not sure about where to stay in Jackson. Pretty sure there will not be anything stealthy. Complainers will complain. The rest of us just watch. Looking forward to Mt. Rushmore.

  8. You have a long journey ahead of you, looks to be fun though, I have a half sister that lives in Pa. around Altoona, she keeps asking me when am I going to visit her, maybe now that I bought the Travato I'll make a road trip there.
Dinosaur museum will be a cool visit, They put the two guys that owned it in prison quite a few years ago after they dug up a T-Rex skeleton that big brother said was on Federal land. They let them dig it up then raided the museum and confiscated it.
I drove up to Coeur d'alene Idaho for a four day nightmare drive in a U Haul towing my car (two days each way) from Southern Cal back in 1999 when I retired from the Air Force. Was going to move there, My two daughters got used to Southern Cal and the beaches and didn't like it there one bit, so I turned around and drove back to Oceanside Ca. wasted $1800 on the U Haul and got around 4 MPG towing my car. What a nightmare..

  9. Started watching you a few months ago, got caught up on your videos! Keep them coming. I'm a full timer as well, but I am in one spot. It's tough full timing in the east, not very RV friendly, and cold in the winter, but it can be done, I am on my third year. I tried hitting the road last year, got stranded in NY at a toll plaza, and had a very expensive tow bill, then truck repairs. Kinda gun shy now after all of that… Not a very pleasant experience. I had a blast on the trip, and so did my dog Cruise! Your videos remind me of my little adventure, hopefully one day I will roam the open road.

  10. Hey Tom, any plans to upload videos from where you left off back in 2017? Would still like to see those. Anyways, looking forward to the next phase of your trip. Drive safe!

  11. How can I thumbs up your vids when you don't make them just how I want you too…? Its like you think it's your channel…!
If the vids are played on my phone, it means they're mine!
    Have a blast Hobotech.

  12. Odin is a badass name for a kitty, unfortunately you have the wrong type of pussy in the van!! Always like your videos, metal music, ebike, just you in general kick ass!

  13. You can please some of the peeps some of the time but you can't please all of the peeps all of the time! Just be you!👍

  14. Hi Tom, I enjoy your travel vlogs! I didn't actually watch the bike videos because it's unlikely that I would build a bike, but I know where to look if I change my mind. I know you put a lot of work into your videos. I've started a channel of my own and I know how time consuming it can be editing videos! You're heading west and I'm heading east! Maybe I'll see you again at rtr!

  15. You are the funny one… a person could blink and miss your humor. I think putting out more videos is a good idea for your channel.
